The Crème De La Crème of Celebrity Style

InStyle engaging readers with celebrity style for Twenty Years!
By Jeanie Walsh

InStyle, a monthly magazine was launched in 1994 by Times Inc. InStyle is aimed at a fashionable audience of young competent women. The magazine started out with a three issue test run with their first edition featuring Barbara Streisand. After two decades of success, InStyle magazine is celebrating their 20th anniversary. The September 2014 Edition celebrated their 20th anniversary featuring Julia Roberts on the cover. “Over a year ago, I knew: There would be no one person that would better represent both the aspiration and accessibility of Hollywood glamour past, present, and future than Julia Roberts,” explains editor Ariel Foxman. The September issue was a whopping 708 pages which included the interview with Julia Roberts, resources on the best new trends and how to wear them, the latest editor-tested beauty products, and a tour of designer Lisa Perry’s N.Y.C. pad. InStyle takes a walk down memory lane for their 20th anniversary Edition with the help of longtime staffers like Amy Synnott, an executive editor who has been at the publication for 14 years. Amy’s duties include managing the beauty and fashion pages and editing cover stories (most recently Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Hudson). Amy is also the editor of the special interest publications InStyle Hair and InStyle Makeover.

Ariel Foxman, the Editor-in Chief of InStyle, was looking for a voice for the news coverage and approached longtime friend Eric Wilson about a newly created position as Fashion News Director.  Eric Wilson joined the team of writers as Fashion News Director in November of 2013. Wilson, formerly a fashion critic, writer of the Fashion Beat and companion critic to Cathryn Horyn for the New York Times adds credibility and a journalistic point of view to the magazine. Wilson composes a weekly column and writes about relevant news events, while also creating multimedia content. Wilson creates new ways to explain to readers why fashion is noteworthy and exciting.
